Rossett News Update - 25 Oct 2024

A Message From Mr Milburn

As we begin the half term holiday, I wanted to share with you how well the year has started and how impressed we have been with our students in this first half term. Over the course of the first 8 weeks, we have seen a record number of positive points (over 146,000) being awarded in Class Charts and I have also met with 30 students who have been nominated for the Headteacher award.

The first 8 weeks has also seen our students take part in lots of exciting activities outside of the classroom, including the Year 10 Futures Day, with the Army. So impressed were the Army outreach team they wrote to say this about our students:

"What an absolute credit to the school. The students were some of the most engaging, polite and behaved children my team and I have had the pleasure of working with."

We have also had a languages trip to France, 40 Drama students immersed in London's West End watching Mamma Mia and taking part in workshops at Pineapple Studios, lots of sporting fixtures and more recently 13 of our Year 9 students have flown to Falmouth, Maine, to spend 2 weeks with host families as part of the American Exchange.

We have also had a number of visitors join us in school, most importantly prospective families making the choice of secondary school for September 2025. They, along with visitors from the Red Kite Learning Trust, Harrogate Advertiser, Your Harrogate and Harrogate Mumbler, have all seen, and commented on, a school that is calm, welcoming and purposeful.

I am sure that our students, like the staff,  are now really looking forward to the break where they can rest, relax and recharge, although we are looking forward to seeing some spook-tacular entries into our Pumpkin competition.

I would like to thank all of our students for the start they have made to the year, to our staff for their continued commitment to 'success for everyone', and to you for your support.

Thank you

T Milburn

Rossett Sisters Bring the Drama to Waterloo Road

Evie (Year 8) and Amelie (Year 10) have had the pleasure of working on the set of television series Waterloo Road for a third time last week. Mrs McLurg, Subject Lead for Drama, is not at all surprised by the success the girls have had, they are excellent in their drama lessons and she is incredibly proud of them.

Student Suggestion Box

In order to support the Rossett student voice, we have re-introduced a student suggestion box which is situated outside the Year 7 pastoral office.  This is a great opportunity to raise matters that mean the most to our students, and each will be read by the Senior Leadership Team and included in our weekly newsletter under 'You Said, We Did'.

This will complement the work undertaken by the student council.

Careers Bulletin

The Rossett Careers Bulletin is a weekly roundup of school careers activities, as well as updates on local, national, and virtual career-related opportunities. To read this week's careers bulletin, click here.

Yorkshire to Ukraine Appeal

Thank you to everyone who has donated items for our Yorkshire to Ukraine collection so far. We are accepting donations right up to 13th December so there is still time to donate.

Yorkshire to Ukraine need anything that you would find useful if you were evacuated from your home to a place of safety. Food, blankets, bedding, clothing, shoes, cleaning products, baby items, candles, camping equipment, sleeping bags, sanitary or washing products and toys. These should be in a condition that you would be happy to use, or give to your children.
